Title : POLYPETALOUS PLANTS FROM BANDIPORA KASHMIR HIMALAYA: AN ETHNOBOTANICAL PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT :
The significance of medicinal plants in indigenous healthcare systems which provide clues to new areas of research and in biodiversity conservation is now well known. Conversely, information on medicinal uses of plants is not explored from many hilly and tribal areas of Kashmir Himalaya. Thus the present study has been carried out from one of such area of Kashmir Himalaya called Bandipora to look for the diversity of plant resources that are being used by local inhabitants for various ailments. During the course of study a total of 17 plant species belonging to 11 different familiespolypetalae from various parts of the area especially from higher altitudes were reported to be of medicinal importance. Out of these Rosaceae and Rannunculaceae were found to be dominant families being used with 3 different species followed by Brassicaceae and Malvaceae with 2 species each and others with one species each.
